Increasing Demand for Muzaffarpur’s Shahi Litchi Abroad
The identification of Muzaffarpur’s Shahi litchi is gaining popularity abroad, with people from South Africa and the Netherlands showing interest in tasting the litchi. A franchise company from the Netherlands has begun preparations to source 250 tons of litchi from the litchi gardens in Bandara. Representatives of the company are expected to arrive in Muzaffarpur in the second week of May to oversee the cooling and harvesting process before transporting the litchi.
Rising Demand for Shahi Litchi in International Markets
After the successful experiment last year, several companies have increased their demand for Muzaffarpur’s Shahi litchi. Due to specific protocols from overseas buyers, the farmers are unable to meet the high demand for litchi supply. Companies are now looking to export Muzaffarpur’s Shahi litchi to other countries, with representatives planning to stay in Muzaffarpur for 20-22 days to transport the litchi to Delhi via AC vans and then export it overseas via air cargo.
Focus on Exporting Litchi to Gulf Countries
Director of the Litchi Research Centre, Vikas Das, states that Muzaffarpur’s Shahi litchi is not only famous in India but also internationally. However, due to technical reasons, the litchi supply to foreign countries does not meet the demand. Last year, only litchi worth two crore rupees was exported abroad from India, with a focus on Gulf countries. Efforts are being made to work on litchi production according to the protocols set by these countries for this year’s export.
