10% schools where students still do not go to school
The education department in Bihar is focusing on improving the quality of teaching and increasing student attendance. However, despite these efforts, more than 10% of schools in the state have less than 50% student attendance. This is particularly prevalent in East Bihar, Kosi, and Seemanchal regions, where there are over 50 such schools. To address this issue, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, KK Pathak, has instructed the District Education Officer and DPO to closely monitor five schools each and engage with the parents of absent students.
KK Pathak mentioned about quota
In his letter, KK Pathak specifically mentioned Kota in Rajasthan, where many students from Bihar are studying. He urged the officials of the Education Department to implement a child tracking system to identify and cancel the enrollment of students who are continuously absent. This would not only lead to financial savings for the government but also improve student attendance.
Pathak told how there will be direct savings of Rs 300 crores
The state government of Bihar spends approximately Rs 3,000 crore annually on various welfare schemes. By canceling the enrollment of 10% of chronically absent students, the government can directly save Rs 300 crore per year. This would contribute to overall financial efficiency and enable the government to allocate resources more effectively.
RDD also instructed to keep an eye on five schools
In addition to the Education Department, the Rural Development Department (RDD) has also been instructed to monitor five schools in their respective areas. The department is organizing seminars with parents to encourage them to send their children to school, and this initiative has already shown positive results in improving student attendance.
Education Department officials are continuously working towards increasing student attendance in government schools. With the implementation of the Additional Chief Secretary’s instructions and the tracking of absent students, it is expected that student attendance will improve soon.
