A farmer from Samastipur district in Bihar has made headlines by using his earnings from selling lemons to buy a car. Amit Kumar Yadav, who used to travel on a bicycle, now travels in his car thanks to the profits he makes from his lemon orchard. Yadav explained that each tree yields over 1,000 lemons annually, which can easily be sold for Rs 2 per piece in the wholesale market. With each tree earning him Rs 2,000 per year, Yadav has managed to accumulate enough money to purchase a car.

Yadav’s journey into lemon farming began five years ago when he realized that the lemon prices in the market were inflated. During a heated argument with a shopkeeper, Yadav was sarcastically told to start growing lemons himself. This comment struck a chord with him, and he decided to research lemon varieties online. Unable to find lemon saplings in the nearby nurseries, Yadav visited Rajendra Agricultural University in Pusa, where he purchased the saplings and planted them in his four-katha land.

With his initial success, Yadav expanded his lemon farming to six katha of land, which now earns him an annual profit of around Rs 5 lakh. He has even managed to buy a car with his earnings and uses it to supply lemons to the market. Yadav’s story serves as an inspiration to other farmers and highlights the potential for profitable farming ventures in India.
