New Aiims Opening in 2024: The central government has started preparations to open new AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) in several states and union territories across the country, following the model of Delhi AIIMS. According to sources in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a big announcement regarding this could be made soon. Many states’ health departments have written letters to the Indian government requesting the opening of AIIMS. The central government, under the Prime Minister’s Health Security Scheme, may announce the opening of more than 6 new AIIMS in the coming days in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Karnataka, Punjab, Maharashtra, and Kerala.
Several states, including those where AIIMS is already operational, have written letters to the Ministry of Health. In Jharkhand, although Devghar AIIMS is already functioning, the health department has proposed opening AIIMS in Dhanbad, Jamshedpur, and Ranchi due to the geographical situation. According to sources in the Ministry of Health, Jharkhand may get another AIIMS this year.
In addition to these states, Bihar is also in a similar situation. While Patna AIIMS is already providing medical services, there are proposals for AIIMS in Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, and the Seemanchal-Kosi region. It is believed that an AIIMS can be opened in a city located near the Bihar-West Bengal border.
New AIIMS in 2024: Following the opening of Raipur AIIMS in Chhattisgarh, demands for the opening of new AIIMS in Bilaspur and Surguja have also been raised. It is believed that the central government may give the gift of another AIIMS in one of these two places. Similarly, demands for the opening of a second AIIMS in Sundargarh, Odisha have been made and approval for it can be given.
More AIIMS in UP and Uttarakhand: There is also a demand to open new AIIMS in Varanasi or Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. Gorakhpur and Rae Bareli already have operational AIIMS. However, discussions are underway regarding the opening of AIIMS in Varanasi to ensure that BHU does not incur losses. Similarly, the demand for opening another AIIMS in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand has been going on for a long time. Recently, the state’s CM Pushkar Singh Dhami also discussed this with Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
According to sources in the Ministry of Health, the central government is giving priority to the geographical situation and population of these states before opening new AIIMS. Similarly, the central government wants to acquire land in Palakkad, Kerala to open a new AIIMS, but the state government is advancing in Kozhikode. Controversy is also going on regarding this. Overall, the central government is considering the condition of patients in the state before opening new AIIMS, including the migration of patients from other states, the burden on hospitals, and surgical facilities for serious illnesses.
