High Speed Corridors Connecting Bihar
Two new high-speed super corridors are being constructed to connect Bihar with Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. These corridors will make travel from North East to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh easier and faster, saving both time and money. Approved under the Bharatmala 2.0 scheme, these corridors will enhance connectivity in the region.
Government Approval for High Speed Corridors
The central government has granted approval for two high-speed corridors passing through Bihar as part of the Bharatmala 2.0 scheme. The construction of the Raxaul-Haldia corridor spanning approximately 367 kilometers and the Gorakhpur-Kishanganj corridor spanning around 416 kilometers is set to begin soon. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been given a target of constructing 100 kilometers of road this year.
Benefits of the Expressways
The first corridor, Raxaul-Haldia Port Expressway, will pass through Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, covering a total length of 719 kilometers. This expressway will improve connectivity between Nepal and Haldia Port, reducing the distance by 22%. The second corridor, Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway, will enhance connectivity for the North East region, benefiting states like Assam, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh. With an average speed of 100-120 kilometers per hour, these expressways will bring economic growth and employment opportunities to the region.
