The Bihar Police achieved a major success on Friday regarding law and order in the state. Notorious criminal Prince Kumar, also known as Abhijit Kumar, was killed in an encounter. This operation was carried out jointly by the Special Task Force (STF) and the Vaishali Police in Hajipur. Prince was a wanted criminal with a reward of ₹2 lakh on his head. He was involved in serious crimes like gold robbery and murder across multiple states.

How did the police operation take place?

The encounter happened in Hanuman Nagar Colony under the Sadar police station area. The police team received a tip-off that Prince was hiding in a house in the Digghi area. When the joint team of STF and district police surrounded the location, the criminals opened fire to escape. The police fired back in self-defense during the shootout.

Reports indicate that Prince was hit by four bullets during the crossfire. The police team immediately took him to Sadar Hospital in Hajipur, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. During the raid, one of his associates tried to run away but was caught by the police. Security forces also recovered illegal weapons and ammunition from the hideout.

What was Prince Kumar criminal history?

Prince Kumar was a resident of Husaina village in Goraul. He was considered the right-hand man of gang leader Subodh Singh, who is known for organizing major gold heists. Prince faced charges in 31 cases across Bihar, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh. He first gained major attention in 2018 for the murder of a police havildar outside the Hajipur Civil Court.

He made headlines again in September 2024 with a high-profile escape from custody. While under treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), he allegedly arranged a party for the policemen guarding him and fled after locking them in a room. The Vaishali SP confirmed that the investigation and post-encounter procedures are being done according to NHRC guidelines.
