A heartbreaking accident took place on the Patna-Ara main road late Sunday night, leaving an entire family devastated. Six people lost their lives when a speeding truck collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw near the Parev Lekhan Tola bridge in Bihta. The victims were returning to their homes in Bhojpur district after attending the Urs fair in Maner. The crash occurred around 2:00 AM on February 1, and the impact was so severe that five passengers died on the spot.
Who are the victims of this tragic crash?
The accident has completely destroyed the family of Nazneen Parveen, who is currently fighting for her life at PMCH. Her husband, Mohammad Shahzad (22), and their two small children, Safan (3) and Asharfi (18 months), were killed in the crash. Other deceased victims have been identified as Mohammad Guddu, Mohammad Imtiyaz, and Pappu Asad Khan. Authorities stated that Pappu Asad Khan died while receiving treatment in Patna. The bodies were sent to a government hospital for post-mortem procedures.
What caused the accident and police action?
Preliminary investigations reveal that the truck was traveling on the wrong side of the road when it hit the tempo. Locals have pointed out that heavy sand-laden trucks often block one side of the highway, forcing vehicles to take dangerous routes. The police have arrested the truck driver, who attempted to flee the scene and even struck a police vehicle during the escape. The families of the deceased will receive an ex-gratia payment of ₹5 lakh each under state rules.
