Patna is getting ready for a new way to travel! On September 19, 2025, the Government of Bihar and the Inland Waterways Authority of India signed a deal in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. This agreement will help develop a water transport system in Patna, making travel easier and more eco-friendly.
The project will feature a high-tech boat called ‘MV Nishadraj’. This boat can run on batteries and hybrid modes, which means it won’t produce carbon emissions. It can carry around 100 passengers, including two wheelchair users, and will be fully air-conditioned to ensure a comfortable ride.
The water metro will connect different ghats, starting from Digha Ghat and passing through NIT Ghat and Gaighat. The trial run for this service is expected to start soon in Patna. Later, ten more locations will be added to the route to help reduce pollution and travel time.
