Residents in Patna, specifically in areas like Boring Road and PNT Colony, are facing a severe shortage of LPG cylinders. The delivery backlog in the Patna district has reached an average of 4.5 days due to a sudden surge in bookings and panic buying. While PNG infrastructure is ready in several neighborhoods, many connections remain inactive at the doorstep, leaving households in a difficult position.

LPG Booking Rules and Delivery Status in Bihar

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has noted that panic booking is a major reason for the current backlog. To manage the supply pressure, the government has increased the booking interval for LPG cylinders. In urban areas, users must now wait 25 days between bookings, while in rural areas, the interval is set to 45 days. Officials from the Food and Consumer Protection Department have assured that supply will remain uninterrupted if consumers avoid unnecessary bookings.

New Rules for PNG Transition and Connection Costs

The central government issued a new mandate effective March 24, 2026, stating that LPG supply will be stopped in areas where PNG network is available. Households have a three-month window to switch to PNG, or they risk losing their LPG connection. GAIL is currently working in mission mode in Patna to expedite these connections. The initial cost for a PNG connection in Patna is set at ₹500, and the setup process usually takes three days.
