This article shares updates on the Patna Metro construction progress and the delay in tunnel work due to pending approvals.

Patna Metro is making good progress with its construction work, but there’s a hiccup in the tunnel work. The construction team is currently focused on building underground stations after completing the elevated corridor. However, the work has been temporarily halted because they are waiting for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Railways.

The Patna Metro Rail Corporation has reached out to the Railways for the NOC, but they haven’t received it yet. This delay has stopped the excavation of the tunnel in Metro Corridor-II. The Railways need to approve the tunnel construction, especially since it will pass under the railway tracks near Rajendra Nagar station.

For the public, this means the construction of the metro tunnel will take longer than expected. The planned tunnel is about 1800 meters long, which includes an underground section of around 800 meters from Moinul Haq Stadium to Rajendra Nagar Terminal. Passengers were hoping for quicker progress, but the work has been stalled after only a portion was completed.

Currently, the excavation work began using two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM). So far, they managed to dig 361 meters with the first TBM and 263 meters with the second. Rajendra Nagar station is set to become the deepest station in the Patna Metro system, located about 21 meters below ground level.

As things stand, the next step is to get the necessary approvals from the Railways so that the tunnel construction can resume. The metro project aims to connect various important locations, making it easier for commuters to travel across the city once completed.

Summary:

  • Patna Metro construction is progressing but facing delays.

  • Tunnel work is on hold due to pending NOC from Railways.

  • The planned tunnel will significantly improve travel in the city.

  • Rajendra Nagar station will be the deepest in the metro system.

  • Next steps involve obtaining necessary approvals to resume work.
