The investigation into the tragic death of a NEET aspirant in Patna has moved to a new phase. Authorities have announced that DNA samples will be collected from 10 additional suspects. This decision was taken on February 10, 2026, as the police continue their search for solid evidence. The victim, an 18-year-old student, was found unconscious in her hostel last month and later passed away.

Why are New DNA Samples Being Collected?
The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) found biological traces on the victim’s clothing, which confirmed sexual assault. To identify the person responsible, the police initially collected DNA samples from around 18 to 25 suspects. However, reports suggest that these earlier samples did not match the biological evidence found at the scene.
Because of this, the investigation team used digital evidence and local intelligence to identify a fresh list of 10 individuals. Their samples will now be sent for profiling to see if they match the forensic evidence recovered from the victim.
Current Status of the Investigation
The case is currently being handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Patna, although the Bihar government recommended a CBI probe on January 31, 2026. The authorities are being very careful with forensic evidence to ensure no data is lost during the handover process.
- Main Accused: Manish Ranjan, owner of Shambhu Girls Hostel, is currently in Beur Jail.
- Recent Tests: DNA of Anshu Agarwal, son of the hostel operator, was also tested recently.
- Legal Action: The police have registered the case under the POCSO Act as the victim was a minor.
The victim’s parents recently protested at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, demanding faster justice. With these new DNA tests, the police aim to make a breakthrough in identifying the real culprit behind this crime.
