Patna Police and the Prohibition Department have conducted a major operation in the capital city. Acting on specific information, a joint team intercepted a tanker coming from Punjab and recovered a massive consignment of foreign liquor. The incident took place in the Transport Nagar area under the Agamkuan Police Station on Wednesday morning. Officials have arrested one person in connection with this smuggling attempt.

How was the liquor being smuggled into Bihar?

The smugglers used a tanker to hide the liquor boxes and avoid checking on the borders. ASP Raj Kishore Singh confirmed that the consignment was brought from Bathinda, Punjab. Upon searching the vehicle, the police team recovered 1,041 cartons of English liquor. The total volume is estimated to be around 9,000 liters. Authorities estimate the market value of this seized stock to be over ₹1 Crore. The plan was to distribute these bottles across different local markets in Patna.

What action has the police taken?

The operation was jointly executed by the local police and the Madh Nishedh Vibhag after receiving a tip-off. The team stopped the vehicle as soon as it entered the Transport Nagar area. Police have taken the driver into custody and are currently interrogating him. The investigation aims to identify the local receivers and the main operators of this syndicate. A case has been filed under the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act.
