Details of the fire and rescue operation

According to the information received, the fire started due to a suspected short circuit in the electrical wiring of the shed. The presence of dry fodder nearby likely fueled the flames, making it difficult to control initially. Local residents and the authorities acted swiftly to prevent the fire from reaching nearby residential buildings.

The Dial 112 team and local police reached the spot and managed to douse the flames. Unfortunately, two cows could not be saved and died on the spot. Three other cows are currently battling severe injuries. Authorities are conducting a preliminary investigation to confirm the cause and check safety standards at the facility.

Compensation rules for cattle owners in Bihar

While specific compensation for this incident has not been announced yet, the Bihar Government has established rules to help farmers and cattle owners in such distress. Under the disaster relief grants, the state government usually provides financial assistance of up to ₹37,500 per large animal in cases of accidental death, including fire incidents.

Additionally, there is a provision for approximately ₹3,000 for damage caused to cattle sheds during such accidents. Owners who have insured their livestock under the Bihar Pashu Bima Scheme 2026 can also claim insurance. To avail of government grants, the affected owner must submit a report from a local veterinarian to the District Animal Husbandry Officer.
