This article talks about the efforts to turn Taregna, the birthplace of Aryabhatta, into an international astro tourism hub.

A big push is on to develop Taregna, known as the birthplace of the famous mathematician and astronomer Aryabhatta, into a global ‘astro tourism hub’. On Monday, a team led by Manjeet Kumar from the Department of Science and Technology visited the site to check on the progress.

The team looked closely at the old, crumbling observatory that Aryabhatta once used, which is now encroached upon. They checked the area and discussed how to promote it as a tourist spot, hoping to put it on the tourism map.

As part of the inspection, the Joint Secretary asked the local Circle Officer to create a visual map of the observatory and its surroundings. He also instructed to identify the houses in the area and submit a detailed report within a week.

The government plans to clear the encroached land and relocate the residents to ensure the historical site is protected. They aim to create proper living arrangements for those affected.

Authorities are planning to make Taregna a large tourism center, requiring around 50 to 100 acres of land. This area will house a grand museum, a library, a study center, and a modern research facility. The efforts will also improve access roads for tourists in the future.

Summary:

  • Taregna is set to become an international astro tourism hub.

  • A team inspected the old observatory of Aryabhatta.

  • A report on the area is due within a week.

  • Plans include relocating residents from encroached land.

  • A large complex with a museum and research center is proposed.
