Devghar: The police have revealed details of the shooting incident that took place in the Krishna Puri area of William’s Town in Devghar district on Tuesday night. The main accused, Pankaj Singh, a resident of Krishna Puri, and his accomplice Rishu Raj, a resident of Shahkund area in Bhagalpur district, have been arrested. The police have seized a country-made pistol, three live cartridges, and a motorcycle (Bajaj Discover, registration number JH-15I/5003) used in the incident. Both have been sent to judicial custody for spreading terror and extortion.
The police have recovered a pistol near the doctor’s house during the investigation. Further investigation and interrogation of both individuals will help clarify the entire incident. Pankaj has several criminal cases registered against him in the district and the Jasidih police station. These include cases of assault and theft in the Jasidih police station, case number 319/20. In the police station, he is also involved in case number 177/21 under section 25(1-b)E/26 of the Arms Act. Additionally, he is also involved in a murder and bomb explosion case in the Salonatand area of the district, case number 637/22 under the Explosive Substances Act.
The police have registered separate cases against both individuals on the same day. According to sources, immediately after the incident, Rajesh Manjhi, an employee working at Dr. Prabhat Ranjan’s clinic, filed a complaint against two unknown individuals for firing near the clinic, demanding money, using abusive language, and other charges. Based on his application, the police have registered a case against them under various sections, including the Arms Act. Similarly, another case has been registered at the Jasidih police station based on the application of SI Chandan Kumar Dubey, where it was mentioned that he reached the Krishna Puri area for the investigation of case number 15/2024 on the night of January 9. During the investigation, CCTV footage from the clinic’s nearby cameras was examined, and an image of a bike was found. Based on this evidence, the identity of both individuals and the bike was established, leading to their arrest from different locations.
During the press conference, the SDPO Pawan Kumar informed that the arrested accused Pankaj Singh has already been in jail for several cases, including murder, theft, and assault. It is being speculated that other criminals might be involved behind the incident. The police are conducting further investigations and interrogations to uncover more details revealed by both accused individuals.
