Lack of Cleanliness in Kitchen
Despite dozens of children falling ill after eating mid-day meals in Kishanganj, the organization Jan Chetna, which supplies mid-day meals, has not learned any lessons. When the kitchen of the organization was inspected on Saturday, a lack of cleanliness was observed. It is important to note that Jan Chetna organization operates the kitchen in Khagda Machmara of the city, where meals are prepared for 170 schools in the city and 34 schools in Bahadurganj.
Unhygienic Conditions
The kitchen was found to be in a mess, with items scattered around and a goat roaming around the kitchen area. It was reported that a lizard was found in the food on Friday, which led to 59 children falling ill after consuming the contaminated meal. One child’s condition is still serious, and they are undergoing treatment in the hospital. Following the incident, District Magistrate Tushar Singla has formed a three-member inquiry committee.
Lack of Compliance with Regulations
When questioned about the lack of cleanliness, NGO director Vikas Kumar Pandey claimed that he was new to the organization and stated that the cleanliness arrangements were adequate. However, the incident has raised concerns about the hygiene and quality of the mid-day meals provided by Jan Chetna in Kishanganj.
