In view of this, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar appointed IAS officer K.K. Pathak as the Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department on June 8, 2023.
Strict Measures and Reforms in Education
Since taking charge, K.K. Pathak has been giving various instructions for reforms in education. He directed all schools to send a report on midday meals to the principal every evening through video calls. He also emphasized on teachers’ punctuality and ordered district education officers, block education officers, and himself to conduct inspections in schools. He even instructed to withhold salaries if any negligence was found. Pathak also made a strict decision regarding teachers’ leave, stating that leave will not be granted without an application and directed written applications to be submitted at the school instead of using WhatsApp. This decision faced opposition from the teachers and reached the Chief Minister’s attention. Pathak has also taken action against fake students who were enrolled in private schools and taking advantage of the school’s facilities. His measures to reduce holidays in schools, including Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami, led to controversies and debates between the ruling and opposition parties, ultimately resulting in the cancellation of the order.
