Traditional Variety of Wheat to be Promoted in Gaya, Bihar
The agricultural department in Bihar has decided to promote the cultivation of the traditional variety of wheat called “Sona-Moti” in Gaya and Begusarai districts. This variety of wheat is known for its health benefits and low gluten content. The seeds will be protected and distributed to farmers in these areas, ensuring availability for cultivation.
High Demand and Price for Sona-Moti Wheat
The Sona-Moti wheat variety has high demand due to its health benefits, resulting in a higher price compared to other varieties of wheat. In states like Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, it has gained popularity among farmers. The agricultural department is making efforts to preserve traditional varieties of crops, including Sona-Moti wheat, as they have been found to be less susceptible to diseases and climate change.
Efforts to Expand Cultivation of Sona-Moti Wheat
Some farmers in Gaya have been cultivating Sona-Moti wheat for the past few years. However, the agricultural department will now take the initiative to promote its cultivation on a larger scale and provide seeds to farmers. It is expected that farmers across the state will be able to cultivate Sona-Moti wheat from next year onwards.
