Protest against Irregularities
The student organization at Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University will no longer be able to protest against irregularities taking place at the university. A directive has been issued by the university administration regarding this. The directive states that any demonstration, dharna, or sloganeering by the student organization in the administrative building of the university will be completely prohibited. The university already has designated areas for protests, and any violation will result in legal action at the university level.
Order from TMBU
On 22nd July, there was a clash between ABVP activists and police at TMBU. A video of the violence surfaced. This incident occurred during a protest at Tilka Manjhi University. The police resorted to lathi charge on the protestors. The issue dates back to the construction of a girls’ hostel at Madan Ahilya Mahavidyalaya, Navagachhia, which has not been operational since 2008.
Clash and Arrests
During the protest on 21st July, more than 12 students were detained by the police. The next day, ABVP activists disrupted a program inside the Senate Hall, leading to a confrontation between the police and the activists. Over 12 student council members were taken into custody and brought to the SC/ST police station. The student organization demanded the withdrawal of the directive issued by the university.
Outrage and Call for Action
The Deputy State President of AISF and University Coordinator Praveen Kushwaha, along with State Executive Member Prashant Kumar Singh, have demanded the immediate withdrawal of the directive by Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University. They criticized the university administration for suppressing the democratic voices of students through police action and filing false cases. The student organization has expressed strong opposition to such measures and vowed to protest against the autocratic behavior of the university’s authorities.
