Purnia Airport Celebrates Milestone of 50,000 Passengers in 88 Days, Boosting Seemanchal Region’s Air Connectivity

Purnia Airport in Bihar has recently reached a major milestone, serving over 50,000 passengers in just 88 days. This accomplishment is not only a win for the airport but also for the Seemanchal region, highlighting its development in air travel. The Airport Authority of India celebrated this success with a cake-cutting event at the airport.

The Director of Purnia Airport, DP Gupta, announced this achievement during a press conference. He mentioned that this marks a key development in air connectivity for the Seemanchal area. The terminal building was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15th September 2025, setting the stage for this rapid growth.

With the growing demand for air travel, passenger numbers have surged remarkably. There were only 2,718 passengers in September 2025, but by November, this number jumped to over 32,000. As of December 12, a total of 54,037 passenger movements were recorded, including nearly equal arrivals and departures.

Purnia Airport started operations with flights to Ahmedabad and Kolkata, and now it operates 10 flights daily, including new routes to New Delhi and Hyderabad. The initial terminal can accommodate 300 passengers, but with the rising demand, the airport is expanding its services.

Plans for the future include constructing five parking aprons for larger aircraft and a new terminal building that will cover 30,000 square meters. This expansion aims to enhance the airport’s facilities, ensuring it continues to meet the growing needs of passengers in the region.
