This article talks about the opening of Purnia Airport in Bihar and its impact on air travel in the region.

Purnia Airport in Bihar has started commercial flights, marking a significant step in enhancing air travel in the region. On Monday, the first flights took off, one heading to Kolkata and the other to Ahmedabad. This development is seen as a major boost for the people living in the Seemanchal area.

The new flights will connect Purnia and nearby districts like Katihar, Araria, and Kishanganj to major cities across India. With this, four airports in Bihar – Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, and now Purnia – are operational. As of mid-September, Bihar had around 89 daily flights serving nearly 12,900 passengers, and this number is expected to grow.

Passengers can now travel directly from Purnia to metropolises like Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad, reducing their reliance on Bagdogra Airport. The new flights will also help in boosting local trade, agriculture, education, and tourism, making travel more convenient for the residents.

Currently, Patna Airport is the busiest with about 10,464 passengers and 71 flights daily. Darbhanga Airport is also seeing good activity with 14 flights and around 2,200 passengers each day. Meanwhile, Gaya Airport serves as a gateway for international pilgrims, with an average of 900 passengers flying from there daily.

The government is also looking to open five new airports in Bhagalpur, Munger, Birpur, Saharsa, and Valmikinagar. This expansion could significantly change air travel dynamics in Bihar and enhance connectivity further.

Summary:

  • Purnia Airport has begun commercial flights, connecting Bihar to major cities.

  • Flights from Purnia will serve districts like Katihar and Kishanganj.

  • Travelers can now reach cities like Delhi and Mumbai directly.

  • Patna Airport remains the busiest, with plans for more airports in Bihar.

  • This development aims to boost trade, agriculture, and tourism in the region.
