The railway ministry has taken significant action after a major train accident in Jamui district. On December 28, a freight train derailed on the Kiyul–Jasidih rail line. In response to the incident, the ministry replaced the Asansol Rail Division’s DRM, Vinita Srivastava, with Sudhir Kumar Sharma.
This decision comes just five days after the accident, highlighting the seriousness with which the railway authority is treating the matter. The mishap occurred late at night, around 11:20 PM, between Simultala and Lahaban stations. A cement-laden freight train derailed, causing 17 of its carriages to go off the tracks, with six of them falling into the Budhua River.
The accident led to significant disruption, with train operations on the Patna–Howrah main line halted for about 69 hours. This caused hundreds of trains to be canceled or diverted, severely inconveniencing thousands of passengers.
The Kiyul–Jasidih line is a crucial route connecting Bihar and Jharkhand, also part of the Howrah–Delhi main line. The railway ministry has indicated that further actions may be taken based on the investigation report of the accident to prevent future incidents.
