What’s inside:

Indian Railways is planning to convert old train coaches into mini hospitals to provide medical services for its employees and retirees.

Indian Railways is taking steps to set up mini hospitals inside old train coaches. This initiative is aimed at providing medical facilities at small railway stations where healthcare is limited. The plan is to roll out these hospitals soon between major stations.

The railway board has directed that these old coaches be converted into hospitals with facilities for outpatient care and emergencies. The first phase will involve converting five coaches into hospitals, benefiting railway staff and retired employees.

Previously, during the pandemic, Indian Railways successfully operated hospitals in coaches for its staff, and now they are expanding this idea. Once converted, these coaches will be stationed at remote locations, ensuring immediate medical care for railway employees and passengers in case of emergencies.

Currently, there are few health facilities between stations like Samastipur and Sonpur, with the nearest hospitals being quite far away. This new initiative will cater to over 5,000 railway employees and more than 10,000 retired staff living in that area.

To tackle the heat, the roofs of these coaches will be insulated using heat-resistant paint, bamboo mats, and bubble wraps. This will help keep the interiors cool, making it a more comfortable environment for medical care.

Summary:

  • Indian Railways is converting old coaches into mini hospitals.

  • The initiative aims to provide healthcare at small railway stations.

  • Initially, five coaches will be transformed into hospitals.

  • These hospitals will benefit thousands of railway employees and retirees.

  • Special measures will be taken to keep the coaches cool during summer.
