There is a strong demand to improve rail connectivity for the people living in the Seemanchal, Kosi, and Mithilanchal regions of Bihar. Local representatives and passenger associations are urging the Railway Ministry to run a Rajdhani Express or a Vande Bharat Sleeper train through the Araria-Darbhanga route. This move aims to save time for passengers who currently have to travel long distances to catch premium trains to New Delhi.

What are the main proposals for the new route?
The local passenger associations have placed two specific options before the authorities. The primary request is to change the route of one of the three Rajdhani Express trains that run between Dibrugarh and New Delhi. Currently, these trains pass through Guwahati and Katihar. The proposal suggests diverting one of these trains to run via Siliguri, Thakurganj, Araria, Forbesganj, and Darbhanga once or twice a week.
If diverting an existing train is not possible, the second proposal asks for a completely new train. The demand is to start a new bi-weekly Rajdhani Express or a modern Vande Bharat Sleeper train on this specific rail section. This change would provide great relief to passengers from Jogbani, Forbesganj, and Araria, who currently have to travel all the way to Katihar to board a Rajdhani train, wasting both time and money.
Who is supporting this demand and what is the status?
This issue has received support from various political leaders and social organizations. Supaul MP Dileshwar Kamat, who is a member of the Railway Advisory Committee, has officially proposed the route diversion. He is being supported by Araria MP Pradeep Kumar Singh, Darbhanga MP Gopal Ji Thakur, Jhanjharpur MP Ramprit Mandal, and Samastipur MP Shambhavi Choudhary.
Groups like the Indo-Nepal Organization of Rail Users and the Bihar Daily Passengers Association are also actively raising this voice. However, the Railway Ministry or the Railway Board has not given any official confirmation yet. No dates or ticket prices have been announced as the proposal is still under consideration.
