Condition of Vikramshila Bridge in Bhagalpur

The Vikramshila Setu in Bhagalpur, known as the lifeline of eastern Bihar, is not being maintained properly. There are small potholes at 10 places within a kilometer, posing a risk of accidents, especially for motorbike riders. Despite the installation of 147 street lights by the district administration on the bridge, more than 100 are not functioning properly. There have been accidents during overtaking, and heavy vehicles are not being stopped by the police, raising concerns of accidents due to the sand on the sides of the bridge.

Potholes on Vikramshila Bridge

Most motorbike riders pass through the bridge during the day, facing difficulties due to the poor condition of the road. Local commuters have expressed their struggles with the inconvenience faced while traveling. Banana vendors from Navgachhia start coming to Bhagalpur from 4:00 AM due to the lack of lighting, causing them significant problems. As darkness falls in the evening, there are concerns about visibility issues on the Vikramshila Setu.

Ineffective Installation of CCTV Cameras

CCTV cameras have been installed by the district administration to monitor overloaded vehicles and impose fines, but no action is being taken against overloaded vehicles nor are fines being collected from the drivers. The District Magistrate, Dr. Naval Kishore Choudhary, has assured that instructions will be given to engineers for the maintenance of the bridge.
