What’s inside:
This article discusses the poor condition of a bridge in Saharsa district, Bihar, highlighting the struggles of local residents.
Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is serving for the 10th time and often talks about improving infrastructure in the state. However, in Saharsa district, the reality is quite different.
In Navhatta Nagar Panchayat, people are still living as they did many years ago. They have to risk their lives by using a broken bridge made of bamboo. Villagers feel neglected, as even basic facilities are missing despite being declared a Nagar Panchayat.
The Chachari bridge, which is crucial for connecting Supaul district to Saharsa, has not been properly built since a dam broke in 1984. Locals share that they face numerous challenges due to the absence of a permanent bridge, especially during rainy seasons when the situation worsens.
Interestingly, the current MLA had built the Chachari bridge using donations when he was a Block Development Officer in 2014. However, it was not funded by the government, and villagers continue to repair the same old structure to cross.
Sadly, this makeshift bridge has become dangerous, with reports of several accidents leading to deaths. Villagers now hope that their elected MLA will finally take action to construct a proper concrete bridge for their safety.
