Two prominent political figures in Bihar, Ashok Choudhary and Maheshwar Hazari, have their reputations at stake in this parliamentary constituency. While Ashok Choudhary’s daughter, Shambhavi Choudhary, is contesting from Lok Janashakti Party’s ticket, Maheshwar Hazari’s son, Sunny Hazari, is in the race representing Congress. The battle between these two contenders is set to unfold in Samastipur.
Political Dynamics in Samastipur
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Congress candidate Dr. Ashok Kumar faced allegations from Ramchandra Paswan of Lok Janshakti Party. Similarly, in 2019, Ramchandra Paswan defeated Dr. Ashok Kumar, only for his son, Prince Raj, to lose to him in the subsequent by-elections after Ramchandra Paswan’s demise. However, with a division in the Lok Janshakti Party, the contest in Samastipur has taken an interesting turn with Ramvilas Paswan’s son, Chirag Paswan, leading the newly formed party against the Congress candidate, Sunny Hazari.
