Ranchi Faces Heatwave

The capital city of Ranchi is experiencing scorching heat during the day. With temperatures reaching a maximum of 43 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, the heatwave continued on Thursday as well. The mercury climbed to 42 degrees Celsius during the day, leaving people sweating profusely. The increased demand for electricity has led to power cuts in certain areas.

Increase in Electricity Demand

Over the past three days, the power demand in Ranchi has surged, reaching 400 megawatts during peak hours. The sudden additional demand of 40 to 50 megawatts has led to load shedding in areas supplied by the grid. Many areas are facing power cuts for an hour or more due to the increased load, causing technical faults in transformers.

Technical Faults and Disruptions

The surge in electricity demand has resulted in technical faults in transformers in several areas due to the excessive use of air conditioners, coolers, and fans in response to the rising temperatures. While the power demand in Ranchi usually ranges from 330 to 360 megawatts, the current situation has led to supply shortages, causing inconvenience to residents.

Prolonged Power Cuts in Certain Areas

Areas such as Bahu Bazaar, Main Road Kalaltoli, Pathalkudwa, Azad Basti, Kokar’s Adarsh Nagar, Naya Toli, Firdaus Nagar, Ratu Road, Harmu, Madhukam, Argoda, and others have experienced power cuts. The electricity department is working to resolve the ongoing issues and provide relief to affected residents. Although some cloud cover is expected, the heatwave is likely to persist, offering little respite from the scorching temperatures.
