The Indian Railways has initiated the final survey process for the 188-kilometer new rail line project connecting Sitamarhi to Nirmali in Bihar. This project is expected to improve the socio-economic status of the Mithilanchal and Seemanchal regions by providing better transportation. The Railway Board recently reinstated this project with a dedicated budget of 2400 crore rupees to ensure the development of local infrastructure.

Key Stations and Proposed Route Plan

The railway line will start from Sitamarhi Junction and pass through various towns and villages before reaching its destination at Nirmali. This new route will provide rail access to several blocks of Sitamarhi for the first time, helping the local population travel more easily. The project includes the construction of several new railway stations along the way.

  • Total Stations: The project features 25 railway stations in total.
  • New Infrastructure: 21 new stations will be built, while 4 existing stations will be used.
  • Major Stations: New stations are proposed at Bhuthi, Sonbarsa, Sursand, Umgaon, Lalmani, and Laukahi.
  • Connectivity: The line connects Sitamarhi, Jaynagar, Laukaha Bazar, and Nirmali.

Project Cost and Final Survey Timeline

The tender process for the final alignment survey has already started and is being managed by the East Central Railway Construction Organization at Patna. This survey is a mandatory step before the preparation of the Detailed Project Report. The authorities have outlined specific details regarding the budget and the technology to be used for the survey.
