A major lapse in security has surfaced in Siwan, Bihar, where two accused individuals managed to escape from police custody within a span of just one week. The latest incident took place at the Sarai Police Station on Saturday morning when an accused named Bablu Tiwari fled the premises. This comes shortly after another escape from Mairwa Police Station, raising serious questions about the security protocols in place.
How Did the Accused Escape?
Bablu Tiwari, a resident of Papaun, was arrested on Friday evening for allegedly shooting and injuring a youth due to an old rivalry. On Saturday morning (March 7, 2026), he requested the guards to let him use the toilet.
Since the lock-up did not have an internal toilet facility, the sentry had to take him outside into the station premises. Taking advantage of this structural issue, Tiwari reportedly pushed the sentry aside and jumped over the boundary wall to escape. Police teams are now conducting raids to locate him.
Official Action and Previous Incidents
This is the second escape in the district within seven days. Earlier, on February 28, a bike theft accused named Firoz Ansari escaped from Mairwa Police Station. Siwan Superintendent of Police (SP) Puran Kumar Jha personally inspected the Sarai station after the incident.
The SP has demanded a detailed report from Trainee DSP Rishabh Anand, who is in charge of the station. Officials have confirmed that strict disciplinary action will be taken against the officers on duty for this gross negligence. Show-cause notices were already issued to staff regarding the previous Mairwa incident.
