This article shares information about the high demand for train travel during Deepavali and the special trains running across Southern Railway.


In the last 20 days, around 9 crore people have taken trains from Southern Railway. This includes trains that connect to other parts of India operated by different rail zones.

On Tuesday, the Chennai Divisional Railway Manager shared that 435 trips will be made by 111 special Deepavali trains. Out of these, Southern Railway is handling 85 trains, while other zones are managing 26 trains.

These special trains will mainly run on busy routes like Chennai to Madurai, Chennai to Kottayam, and Chennai to Bengaluru, among others. They are scheduled to operate until October 21, catering to the festive rush.

The Chennai Railway Division has set up 176 extra trains with added stops at important stations to make it easier for passengers to board and get off.

Travelers can expect these arrangements to help reduce congestion and make their journeys smoother during the festive season. The special trains are aimed at meeting the high demand as people travel for Deepavali celebrations.
