Conviction of Grandmother and Main Accused in Rape Case in Bettiah
In a case of forcing granddaughter into rape in Bettiah, special judge Vivekanand Prasad of POCSO found the step-grandmother and main accused guilty while completing the trial. The court sentenced both the convicts to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The incident took place on December 16, 2021, when the victim was studying in the fourth grade. She was praying in her school when her step-grandmother came and took her out of school under the pretext of buying some food items.
Details of the Incident and Legal Proceedings
Once outside, the step-grandmother took her on a bus to the house of the main accused, Ejazul Quraishi, where he committed the heinous act. Even after crying and pleading, no one came to her rescue, while her grandmother was in another room. Ejazul then took them to Tikulia Chowk on his bike and left them there. Two years later, the court delivered its verdict after a trial.
Victim’s Revelation and Police Complaint
When the victim reached home with her grandmother, her mother noticed something was wrong and questioned her. The victim narrated the entire incident to her mother, who then took her to the hospital and filed a police complaint. Ved Prakash Dwivedi, the special public prosecutor under the POCSO Act, mentioned that the victim’s mother had lodged a complaint at the local police station, naming Baby Begum and Ejazul Quraishi as the accused.
Sentencing and Compensation
After completing the trial, the Additional District and Sessions Judge along with the Special Judge under the POCSO Act found both Ejazul Quraishi and Baby Begum guilty and sentenced them to 20 years of imprisonment under relevant sections. Additionally, a fine of Rs 15,000 each was imposed on them. Furthermore, the victim was awarded a compensation of Rs 7,20,000 under the Bihar Victim Compensation Scheme.
बेतिया में पोती से रेप कराने मामले में पॉक्सो के विशेष न्यायाधीश विवेकानंद प्रसाद ने सुनवाई करते हुए चचेरी दादी व मुख्य आरोपी को दोषी पाया है। कोर्ट ने दोनों को 20-20 साल की कठोर कारावास की सजा सुनाई है। चचेरी दादीपीड़िता ने बताया कि घटना 16 दिसंबर 2021 की है जब उसे जबरन गलत काम कराया गया था। दो साल बाद कोर्ट ने दोषियों को सजा सुनाई और पीड़िता को भादवि और पॉक्सो एक्ट की धारा के तहत सात लाख बीस हजार रुपए का अनुदान देने का भी आदेश दिया है।
