Success Story: A Farmer in Samastipur
A farmer named Dinesh Singh from Samastipur district in Bihar has achieved success by following the advice given to him by the district agricultural officer. He started cultivating brinjal after receiving the suggestion and found that he could harvest 10-11 quintals of brinjal in one go, earning a profit of 1.5 lakhs. This successful season lasts for six months.
Shift towards Vegetable Cultivation
Farmers in Samastipur are gradually shifting towards vegetable cultivation instead of traditional crops, as it proves to be more profitable. Dinesh Singh, who owns 2 acres of land in Mohiuddinagar Panchayat, has been cultivating brinjal for the past five years and selling it in local markets, earning a substantial income during the six-month season.
Fluctuating Profits
Dinesh Singh mentioned that he can harvest 10-11 quintals of brinjal every seven days from his 2-acre land. Although he initially made a good profit, the price of brinjal has decreased recently, resulting in lower profits. Despite facing losses due to continuous rainfall in the beginning, he continued with brinjal cultivation. He also mentioned that paying a rent of 1000 rupees to the landowner is not an issue as long as the income is good. With his current cultivation, he has earned more than 1.5 lakhs in profit.
