Controversy over the construction of a shrine in two communities ★Photo: Amar Ujala

In the Hussainpur Nand village of the Basantpur Thana area of the district, construction of a shrine was underway. It is said that where the shrine is located, there is also a Chhath Ghat. When the Muslim community was carrying out the construction work of the shrine, the other community opposed it and prevented the work from being done. This created tension between the two communities, and the police administration intervened to handle the situation.

What is the controversy?

Essentially, one community claims that there is a small shrine that is thousands of years old in this place, and along with it, a Chhath Ghat has also been built during worship. Both communities live together with love and affection. They say that the shrine is quite old and has been affected by anti-social elements, which is why the construction of the shrine’s boundary was being carried out. However, as soon as the construction work began, the other community expressed their objections, leading to tension between the two communities.

What does the police say?

It should be noted that the construction work of the shrine’s boundary was being carried out on government land, as informed by the Station House Officer Mukesh Kumar. However, both communities have been performing prayers and rituals there for a long time. Currently, the construction is illegal, so it has been halted.
