Threat to Journalist in Araria
A journalist named Jyotish Kumar Jha from a daily newspaper in Araria has received a threat to be shot by a person named Rajkumar from Madanpur. When the victim journalist filed a complaint at the Madanpur police station, the police took no action except for registering the complaint and closed the case. This led to anger among the district journalists association members, who demanded action against the culprits.
Demand for Action
The district journalists association has written a formal application to the district officials and the SP demanding action against the perpetrators. Additionally, they have called for a one-day protest demonstration against the Madanpur police station on Saturday. The incident involved Jyotish Kumar Jha receiving a death threat over the phone on August 1st, which prompted him to file a complaint at the Madanpur police station.
Lack of Police Action
Despite the seriousness of the incident, the Madanpur police only took action under section 107 and did not investigate the matter further. This lack of concrete action has raised concerns among journalists, as similar threats have been made in the past, leading to fatal consequences. In light of this, the district journalists association has decided to hold a protest at the district headquarters on Saturday.
Continued Threats to Journalists
Incidents of threats and violence against journalists continue to occur, with little to no action being taken against the perpetrators. The recent incident in Araria has once again highlighted the risks faced by journalists in the line of duty. The protest by the district journalists association aims to bring attention to the issue and demand better protection for journalists in the future.
