Traditional and Cash Crops in Vaishali, Bihar
Vaishali, Bihar is known for traditional farming practices on a large scale. However, in recent years, there has been a shift towards cash crops as well. Farmers are now cultivating cash crops alongside vegetables, with fruits like mangoes, litchis, papayas, bananas, and guavas being grown. The Horticulture Department is implementing various schemes to promote fruit cultivation, enabling farmers to benefit from these initiatives.
Documents Required for Scheme Benefits
Assistant Director of Horticulture, Shashank Kumar, mentioned that the Horticulture Department has launched a portal for farmers to apply for schemes. The deadline for applications is June 30th, and farmers need to submit documents such as land receipts, farmer registration numbers, Aadhar cards, and LPCs. Each farmer can apply to plant gardens in a minimum of 10 katthas of land. Saplings of mango trees will be available for Rs. 70-100, litchi trees for Rs. 50, and papaya trees for Rs. 20, with farmers receiving a 70% subsidy on all plants.
Distribution of Saplings Post June 30
Assistant Director Shashank Kumar also mentioned that the portal will remain open until June 30 for farmers interested in planting gardens for the financial year 2024-2025. Farmers can apply online during this period, and once the application process is complete, mango, litchi, and papaya saplings will be made available after June 30. The subsidy amount for the plants will be directly transferred to the farmers’ accounts.
