Late Saturday night, a cement-laden goods train derailed between Lahaban and Simultala stations on the Jasidih-Jhajha rail line. This accident caused a major disruption on the Patna-Hawrah main line, affecting train services.
As a result of the derailment, both tracks were badly damaged. Information about the incident reached the officials of the Asansol rail division, prompting them to respond quickly to the site of the accident.
Due to the incident, 82 trains have been affected, with 14 trains being cancelled and 64 trains diverted to different routes. Passengers of some trains are facing delays ranging from 2 to 15 hours.
Heavy machinery, including cranes and JCBs, have been deployed to clear the wreckage and restore the track. The railway officials are working round the clock to ensure that services return to normal.
It is expected that train operations will resume in about 36 hours, with hopes that everything will be back to normal by Monday morning.
