Changing Trends in Agriculture in Bihar
The trend of farming in Bihar, especially among the youth, is changing with the adoption of new techniques. Young farmers are now opting to grow seasonal vegetables in cash crops, which is proving to be profitable for them. Despite having limited land, farmers are able to earn good income through high yields. In the Meenapur village of Vaishali district, Kaushal Kumar improved his family’s financial situation by completing his B.Sc. in Agriculture alongside working in the fields with his father.
Success Story of Kaushal Kumar
While visiting Bengal with friends, Kaushal observed farmers growing a different variety of brinjal with good yields. Upon inquiring, he learned about the Bengal Mukta Jhudi variety of brinjal. Upon returning, he started cultivation by planting 300 brinjal plants in a small plot. This variety of brinjal grows up to 8-10 inches in length, with higher seed content and fruit bearing capacity. In just four months, he earns over three lakhs from the cultivation of this brinjal variety.
Profitable Vegetable Farming
Kaushal sells his brinjals in the local markets of Hajipur and attracts buyers from Patna as well. The long and better-tasting brinjals yield high profits compared to regular varieties. Vegetable farming proves to be a lucrative source of income, making it a popular choice among farmers in the region. The success story of Kaushal Kumar highlights the potential of innovative farming techniques in transforming the agricultural landscape of Bihar.
