Unique initiative has been taken by the Juvenile Justice Board in Muzaffarpur, Bihar to protect minors from criminal mentality and prevent them from engaging in future crimes. Some minors have been ordered to serve in Garibnath Temple for 21 days, while others have been directed to serve in Sadar Hospital for a month, taking care of elderly patients. In another case, a parent was instructed to distribute biscuits, copies, and pens to disabled children at a special institution. The Chief Priest of Garibnath Temple and a civil surgeon have also been contacted regarding this initiative.

In recent days, a case of robbery was registered at Ahhiyapur Police Station, where a minor was also accused and later arrested. Since the accused was a minor, the case was being heard in the Juvenile Justice Board. After the hearing, the guilty was ordered to serve at Garibnath Temple for 21 days.

Similarly, in a theft case registered at Brahmpura Police Station, a minor was ordered to serve at a hospital for elderly patients for a month. In another case registered at Karja Police Station, the parent of a minor was instructed to distribute biscuits, copies, and pens among children residing at Shubham Divyang Kendra Fardagola, Bhagwanpur. Furthermore, other minors were ordered to serve at Chhinnamastika Temple and provide first aid to patients at a hospital.

Note: A scheme has also been introduced in Bihar where children suffering from heart diseases will receive government-funded surgeries and other benefits.

Initiative of serving in temples: Vinay Pathak, the Chief Priest of Garibnath Temple, shared that the Juvenile Justice Board has informed them about the decision through a letter. The board’s decision will be implemented accordingly. He also mentioned that in the past, the Juvenile Justice Board had sent minors to serve in the temple as a form of punishment. These minors are involved in cleaning the temple premises and assisting devotees.
