A serious issue has come up in Dharmarai village, Amarpur block, where a check dam is being built to help farmers. The project costs around Rs 13 crore 35 lakh, but villagers are worried about the quality of the work being done.
As soon as the construction began, local residents noticed that the construction agency was not following government standards. They claim that local bricks are being used instead of proper chimney bricks, and old cement and sand mixed with soil are being thrown into the work.
People in the village believe that using local bricks will not hold up against water pressure, and the dam could fail during the first rain. They are really upset, saying this is a waste of government money and could harm their farming future.
Adding to the concerns, a video has been shared online showing that the dam’s wall does not have any drainage system. Some villagers reported that very thin and broken iron rods are being used in the dam’s steps, which is unsafe and unacceptable.
In response to the protests, the SDO of Minor Water Resources Department stated that any bad materials found would be removed. However, villagers are not satisfied with this promise and are demanding a thorough investigation from an independent agency to ensure accountability.
