What’s inside:
Villagers in Gulmahiyachak, Patna, are protesting against poorly planned road and drain construction that threatens their homes.
On Sunday, villagers in Gulmahiyachak, a locality in Patna, showed their anger over the construction of a road and drain. This work, being done by a contractor, has upset many residents, and they came together to halt the construction. They are worried that around 40 houses could face problems due to this work.
The villagers claim that the construction is being done without following proper technical guidelines. The road is being raised about 4 feet higher than the ground level, which poses a serious risk. They argue that the drain is designed to take water away from homes, but if it is higher than the houses, it could lead to dirty water entering their homes instead.
Local resident Dharamshila Devi expressed her concerns, mentioning that while development is important, it should not create problems for the community. She highlighted how difficult it would be for elderly people and children to move in and out of homes with such a high road. The villagers are asking for the road to be lowered by at least 3 feet so that water can flow properly into the drain.
Moreover, residents Vinod Kumar and Santosh Prasad have raised doubts about the quality of materials used in the construction. They have pointed out that substandard bricks are being used, which could affect the long-term durability of the work. They are insisting that the drain be built 3 feet below the level of their houses, and they will not allow any further construction until their concerns are addressed.
Currently, the villagers have completely stopped the construction work and are demanding that the administration look into the matter quickly. The Block Development Officer (BDO) of Patna Sadar has been informed about the situation and stated that he will investigate further.
