Delhi-Katra Green Field Expressway: The construction of the Delhi-Katra Green Field Expressway, part of the Bharatmala Project, is progressing rapidly. It is claimed that 75% of the work on Package 1 and Package 2, starting from the village of Nilothi in Bahadurgarh, has been completed. The plan is to open the expressway by March 2024, with vehicles expected to start using it within four months. The completion of the project in Jammu is targeted for March 2024, while in Katra it is expected to be completed by June 2025.

Foreign-style features on the expressway: Officials claim that the expressway will have facilities in line with foreign standards. This includes amenities such as food outlets, vehicle maintenance, petrol pumps, and restrooms equipped with CNG and EV (electric vehicle) charging facilities.

Emergency assistance teams: Ambulances, fire brigades, trauma centers, and traffic police teams will be stationed on the expressway 24/7 to provide emergency assistance. Three such facilities are being established in Sonipat, near Rukhi, Noornkhera, and Chawri Village.

Project cost and length: The project, spanning a total length of 670 km, is being executed in 21 packages, with five of them being constructed in Haryana. The total cost of the project is estimated to be INR 39,000 crore. The main expressway is 570 km long, with the Greenfield Expressway from Nilothi to Gurudaspur being 397.712 km long and the Brownfield Expressway from Gurudaspur to Katra being 122.288 km long.

Benefits of the expressway: The expressway will allow travel at a speed of 120 km per hour, reducing the travel time to Katra to just six hours. It will also help alleviate traffic congestion on NH-44, from Sonipat to Delhi. Additionally, it will provide new routes connecting Chandigarh, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir. Five locations in Sonipat will have connectivity to the Green Field Expressway.

Progress on Katra Expressway: The construction of the Katra Expressway is progressing at war footing. The work of installing guardrails on flyovers has started, with 75% of the work already completed. Soon, vehicles will start running on the road. ★Mini Singh, Deputy Director, NHAI, Delhi.

Installation of guardrails on flyovers underway, entry from KMP: Construction work on flyovers for the Katra Expressway is underway at a war footing. Large machines are being used for the task, which will soon be completed. Currently, the work of installing guardrails on the flyovers is being carried out. Toll booths will be set up near Hasanpur village, located 8 km away from Nilothi village, on the road starting from KMP.
