Delhi-Katra Green Field Expressway: The construction of the Delhi-Katra Green Field Expressway, a part of the Bharatmala project, is progressing rapidly. It is claimed that 75% of the work on Package 1 and Package 2, which starts from the village of Nilothi in Bahadurgarh, has been completed. The plan is to open it by March 2024, with the expectation of vehicles filling it within four months. The project is scheduled to be completed in Jammu by March 2024 and in Katra by June 2025.

Foreign-style features on the expressway: Officials claim that the expressway will have facilities similar to those in foreign countries. It will include amenities such as food, vehicle maintenance, petrol pumps, and restrooms equipped with CNG and EV (electric vehicle) charging facilities.

Emergency assistance on the expressway: Teams of ambulances, fire brigades, trauma centers, and traffic police will be available on the expressway 24/7 to provide emergency assistance. Three such facilities are being established in Sonipat, near Rukhi, Nurankhera, and Chhavdi villages.

Project cost and length: The total cost of the project is 39,000 crores INR, with construction being carried out in five out of the 21 packages in Haryana. The main expressway is 570 km long, while the Greenfield expressway from Nilothi to Gurudaspur will be 397.712 km long and the Brownfield expressway from Gurudaspur to Katra will be 122.288 km long.

Benefits of the expressway: The travel time between Sonipat and Amritsar will be reduced to 99 km. The expressway will make the journey from Delhi to Katra easier, benefiting pilgrims visiting Mata Vaishno Devi. It will also enable a speed of 120 km/h, allowing travelers to reach Katra in just six hours.

Construction progress: The construction of the Katra Expressway is progressing at a war footing, with work on placing railings on flyovers already underway. 75% of the work has been completed, and soon cars will start running on the road, according to Mini Singh, Deputy Manager of NHAI, Delhi.

Flyover construction: Work is also underway at each flyover on the Katra Expressway. Large machines are being used to complete the work, which is expected to be finished soon. Currently, railings are being installed on the flyovers, and toll booths will be established near the Hasanpur village, 8 km from Nilothi village, on the KMP (Kundli-Manesar-Palwal) highway.
