Government of Delhi: Good news for residents of Delhi, as now you can buy wheat flour and chickpeas from any ration shop in Delhi even if you do not have a ration card. The Central Reserve and Delhi Ration Dealers Association (DSRDS) recently signed an agreement on 21st December. Under this agreement, around 2,000 ration shops in Delhi will sell 10 kg bags of wheat flour for Rs. 275 per kilogram and chickpeas for Rs. 60 per kilogram.

Approval for retail market: In order to increase their income, ration dealers have been demanding for a long time to allow them to sell chickpeas in the retail market. Keeping this demand in mind, the Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs has launched the ‘Bharat Atta’ brand under the ‘Bharat Daal’ scheme. Chickpeas have been approved for sale in the retail market, which will be available at a lower price compared to market rates.

Lower prices for wheat flour and chickpeas: In the market, wheat flour is available from Rs. 30 to Rs. 35 per kilogram, but under the MOU between Central Stores and Delhi Ration Dealers Association, you can get wheat flour for Rs. 27 per kilogram. Talking about chickpeas, which are sold in the market for Rs. 75 to Rs. 90 per kilogram, you can get them at Rs. 60 per kilogram at ration shops.

Based on family basis: As per Shiv Kumar, the President of Delhi Ration Dealers Association, under the MOU with central stores, shopkeepers will not be able to supply wheat flour and chickpeas in bulk. Anyone from the family can buy wheat flour and chickpeas based on their ration card. If you need 10 or 20 kg of wheat flour, it will be provided. This will increase the income of ration shop owners in Delhi. They will now be known as grocery stores instead of ration shops.

Launching of the scheme: According to Saurav Gupta, the General Secretary of Delhi Ration Dealers Association, the scheme can be launched in Delhi under the government’s control next year. His union has been demanding this scheme for a long time. Both the central and Delhi governments are supporting this scheme. Ration shops in Delhi come under the government of Delhi. The Delhi government has already given permission to sell chickpeas and soon will also grant permission to sell wheat flour.
