Delhi-Mumbai Expressway: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, inaugurated various road projects in Rajasthan on Monday and announced the construction of an electric highway between Jaipur and Delhi. The electric highway will be built along with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, making it the first e-highway in the country between Jaipur and Delhi.
During a program at a private resort near Udaipur, Gadkari inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 17 road projects worth Rs 2,500 crore in Rajasthan. The event was attended by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, BJP State President and Chittorgarh MP CP Joshi, and various other representatives.
Gadkari mentioned that he had imagined an aircraft that can land on water and turned it into reality at Sabarmati. He suggested that the concept of e-highways can be implemented for operating aircrafts on water bodies in Rajasthan, which is a popular tourist destination known for its lakes. He also highlighted the idea of a river port along with an airport. Referring to former US President John F. Kennedy, Gadkari said that wherever a road network is developed, a new city is born. He added that the new bypass in Udaipur will enhance export facilities, benefit industries, and generate new employment opportunities.
Gadkari emphasized the need to not only focus on road network construction but also on fuel transformation. He mentioned that the length of three buses connected by electric lines above the road will be equivalent to an e-highway. The journey on these buses will offer an experience similar to traveling by airplane, and the fare will be comparatively lower.
Gadkari also mentioned the construction of six-lane Chittorgarh-Udaipur section, two-lane paved shoulder of Byawar-Asind section, two-lane paved shoulder of Asind-Mandal section, four-lane bus rapid transit system from Baghana to Bhavnasia, and the inauguration of various other road widening and strengthening works in the state of Rajasthan. Prior to his speech, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma welcomed Gadkari and expressed gratitude for his continuous support and innovative ideas. He also stated that the Rajasthan government is working on other necessities along with the road network under the double engine government.
