Delhi to Jaipur Electric Highway
The demand for electric vehicles is increasing in the country, and the government is swiftly moving towards electrification. It has been reported that the Modi government is considering building the country’s first electric highway between Delhi and Jaipur. This announcement was made by the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in recent months.
Construction of Electric Highway
According to Nitin Gadkari, the government is working on developing electric highways as it is economically viable. The construction of India’s first electric highway between Delhi and Jaipur will take place. The 200 km long highway will be built on a new lane along the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Once completed, this will be the country’s first electric highway.
How to Build Electric Highways
Around the world, three different types of technologies are used for constructing electric highways ★Pantograph model, Conductive model, and Inductive model. In the Pantograph model, a wire is connected on top of the road through which electricity is supplied. This power is then delivered to the vehicle through the pantograph, providing power directly to the vehicle’s engine or charging the battery.
Benefits of Electric Highways
The biggest benefit of an electric highway is the potential significant reduction in the cost of vehicle transportation. According to estimates, the logistics cost can be reduced by up to 70% with an electric highway. Currently, one of the major reasons for the increase in transportation costs is the high fuel prices. If non-transportation costs are reduced, inflation may decrease. Additionally, it will be entirely eco-friendly as vehicles will be powered by electricity, which is less harmful to the environment compared to petrol and diesel.
