DELHI NEWS: The public distribution department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Public Distribution, has decided to sell ‘Bharat Aata’ brand flour and ‘Bharat Daal’ brand chana daal through nodal agencies to increase the income of ration shopkeepers. The approval for central warehousing has been given.

Non-ration card holders in Delhi will now be able to purchase discounted daal and flour. An agreement has been signed between Central Store Manager and Delhi Government Ration Dealers Association (DSRDS) under which approximately 2,000 ration shops in Delhi will sell 10 kg bags of flour for Rs. 275 per kg and chana daal for Rs. 60 per kg.

It is noteworthy that ration shopkeepers have been demanding an increase in their income for a long time. Taking this into consideration, the public distribution department, with the approval of the Ministry of Food and Public Distribution, has decided to sell ‘Bharat Aata’ brand flour and ‘Bharat Daal’ brand chana daal through nodal agencies. Approval has been given to provide central warehousing, which will be given at subsidized rates.

According to the guidelines, no ration card holder, whether cardholders or non-cardholders, will be given a large quantity of flour or daal than the specified amount. Maximum five packets of daal and two bags of flour will be provided at a time.

The central warehouse will allocate one shop from each circle for supplies, which will be selected by DSRDS. Other ration shopkeepers in the circle will then have to supply ration to their customers using their own vehicles.

The daal and flour packets will be sold at the marked rates. The shopkeeper’s margin will be as per the government’s decision. Ration shopkeepers will also have to deposit five empty checks in the name of central warehouse.

This plan will be implemented in a phased manner across the country after Delhi. Therefore, the nodal agency Central Warehouse has also signed an agreement with the All India Fair Price Shop Federation and Delhi Union DSRDS.

The central government has made efforts to ensure that non-ration card holders can also get flour and daal at subsidized rates. Under the plan, the allocation list will be given to the central warehouse in Delhi based on the demand of the circles, which has been announced through the district offices by the Food and Supply Officer. This plan will be implemented in ration shops by the new year.
