Delhi Dehradun Expressway Construction
Good news for travelers from the capital Delhi to Dehradun and Rishikesh in Uttarakhand, as the construction of the Delhi Dehradun Expressway is underway. This will provide relief to road users who have been facing traffic jams in Meerut due to the stalled construction of the highway. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started work on the project, which will make travel easier once completed.
Construction Delay
According to media reports, technical issues caused the NHAI to halt the fifth phase of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway construction last April. The project has been delayed for about 9 months since then. A new deadline has been set for completion of the fifth phase, which is currently under construction.
Expected Completion
The construction is expected to be completed by the end of this year, with hopes of opening by the end of December. A bypass will be constructed to connect Mohiuddinpur to Kharkhauda Road in Meerut to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. This bypass was planned in the fifth phase of the project, but work has not yet begun on it.
Improved Connectivity
Travelers from Delhi to Dehradun and Rishikesh will no longer have to worry about getting stuck in traffic in Meerut. The expressway will improve connectivity between Meerut and Haridwar. Vehicles coming from Bijnor will be able to reach Delhi without getting stuck in Meerut’s traffic. Vehicles traveling between Delhi and Haridwar will be able to bypass Meerut and reach their destination directly, reducing travel time by about three hours.
