Increased Speed Limit on Yamuna Expressway
Good news for residents of Delhi-NCR as the speed limit on Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway, which was reduced last year, has been increased again. On 16th February, the speed limit for light vehicles was raised to 100 km/h. Due to fog in December last year, the speed limit was reduced to 75 km/h.
Speed Limit Regulations
Throughout the year, the speed limit on both expressways remains 100 km/h for light vehicles and 80 km/h for heavy vehicles. However, as a precaution during winter, the speed limit is gradually reduced to 75 km/h and 60 km/h.
Police Statement
Police Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) Anil Yadav stated that while the speed limit has been increased, people should use their brains while driving. He mentioned that even though the speed limit is 100 km/h, many people tend to overtake because most fines on the expressway are for overspeeding. He emphasized that this not only violates rules but also compromises the safety of passengers and others.
Number of Fines Issued
From 15th December to 15th February, a total of 2671 fines were issued for overspeeding. The cases of overspeeding on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway are relatively low due to heavy traffic on this route. A fine of Rs 2000 is imposed for driving at high speed. If someone receives more than 3 fines, their driving license is suspended.
