Doubling of the Ratlam-Neemuch railway line is progressing well, with the laying of tracks and widening of platforms underway after the completion of earthwork. The project, which was only 35% complete, is now expected to be finished quickly. The goal is to have the second line operational by March 2025.
Responsibilities for the civil, electrical, signal, and telecom work for the Ratlam-Neemuch railway line doubling project have been assigned to a contracted company to avoid any delays. This has resulted in the project progressing at a fast pace. The doubling of the 133-kilometer railway line will increase the number of trains and reduce travel time.
The project is estimated to cost 868 crores for civil work, with the remaining funds allocated to electrification, signal and telecom, and mechanical work. The work is progressing on both ends, from Neemuch to Ratlam. After laying tracks in Dhousvas, the widening of platforms has also begun in Namli.
Once the project is complete, the Ratlam-Chittorgarh section will have a double railway line. The plan includes enhancing 18 railway stations and constructing 31 major and 133 minor bridges. The section from Neemuch to Daloda is 63.94 kilometers, while Daloda to Ratlam is 68.98 kilometers. Currently, the single line is handling 150% train load.
After the completion of the doubling of the Ratlam-Neemuch railway line, the doubling of the Ratlam-Fatehabad-Indore railway line will be undertaken. The doubling of the 120-kilometer route is estimated to cost around 1760 crores. The approval from the board is awaited to commence the work. Currently, due to the single line, trains have to frequently stop for crossings.
In consideration of additional train operations in the future, the railway is also doubling the Indore-Devas-Ujjain, Raoh-Mahu, and Indore-Fatehabad-Ratlam routes. This will facilitate train operations. Survey work has also been conducted for the doubling of the Fatehabad-Ujjain rail route, which is 22 kilometers long.
The doubling of the railway line will eliminate the need for trains to halt at stations for crossings. New trains will be introduced for Udaipur, Jaipur, Ajmer, and Kota. The number of trains will increase to more than 30. Currently, there are 16 pairs of passenger trains running, including passenger, express, mail express, and weekly trains. The transportation of goods will increase by up to 50%, resulting in increased revenue for the railway. The Neemuch and Chittorgarh regions have 10-12 cement factories. In case of train accidents or disruptions, traffic can be operated on the second line, while currently, the route remains closed in such situations.
